Accidental Death and Dismemberment Insurance or AD&D provides protection in the event that an employee has an accidental death or injury either on or off the job. Accidental Death & Dismemberment is also referred to as double indemnity insurance as the benefits payable doubles for employees who die as a result of an accident.   The death benefit payable is most often matched to the Life Insurance benefit amount.

Most Accidental Death & Dismemberment policies cover both "loss" and "loss of use". A schedule of losses is provided by each insurer to show what amount of the benefit payment will be paid out on each loss or loss of use type.
